This is from the Daily Paintworks "Crowd Challenge." I wanted to see how much I could change things around from the photo, so I made some of the figures into cats and birds, and then added other figures from my imagination.

"Big Tree by the River" watercolor on 140# Arches CP paper, 5x7.

For a while I was in a slump with my acrylics. Every painting started out well, and somewhere between "good enough" and "overkill" the painting would die. After having this happen to several paintings in a row, I decided to take a break from acrylics and do some watercolors. This turned out a good strategy, as it gave me a chance to break free, have some fun, and relax into the painting.

"The Shapes of Logic"

Watercolor and gouache on 140# hot press paper, size 4x6 inches. Reference for this one was a lifedrawing I did from a live model at an open studio.
