Started from live model, finished with photo. I wanted to get a sense of the tension of waiting backstage, while onstage and unseen, bright energy is flowing.

Three hour study from a live model, who is a belly dancer. The background colors are from another painting showing through. If I do a live study that doesn't turn out well (and that one definitely did not), I paint over it. The colors from the painting underneath always make for an interesting background.
