I finished the fish & the background, added in the keys, and now it's done. The water in the background looks like a lake, or loch, hence the title. The fish has a lock in its eye, and the other characters in the painting all have a key. Originally I was going to have just one key dangling off the lady's hat, but once I put the lock into the fish, I realized all three of the other characters had to have a key.
I entered this painting into a juried show AVAA 32nd Anniversary (Austin Visual Arts Association).

I love it! The keys make it spectacular. Did Eve tell you that she's giving me her old keys? I'm collecting them. I have a penchant for them like you. It's lovely.
Theresa, I really enjoy your paintings and love how they tell a story.
I love this painting in so many ways. The engaging directions, the beautifully structured and rendered points of interest, the comfortable palette, etc. If i had this on my wall for 20 years, it would still stop me on my tracks. Best wishes on the juried show! You're already a winner for having painted this piece congrats Theresa!!!!!!
Thanks Waverly, Brian and Erika! I really appreciate everyone's comments and kind words. Couldn't have done it without you, Waverly. Namaste to the model!
This is a wonderful painting. I love how I had to look at it for a while to see the keys and the fish's eye as a lock. I love narrative paintings. Waverly is the model?
Thanks Laura! Yes, it's Waverly.
Theresa, your creativity needs no bounds! I love this painting, really. Brava, cara. And yes, I am back in Texas. (not that it matters, I could compliment you from Italy just as easily -- just remembering your comment on Facebook)
